Cyber PredatorsCyber predators, or online predators, are any adult internet users who exploit vulnerable children and teenagers. They use highly sophisticated methods in order to gain the trust of their victims. Cyber predators often use chat rooms, social networks, instant messaging or any number of internet communication tools to come in contact with their victims.
Legal Issues
There are federal laws which protect kids from cyber predators, including the Protect Act of 2003, which allows the government to use wiretapping to catch these predators before they strike. In 2008, the Protect Act was re-passed and this quadrupled the funding for the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.
